History 2004: Financial Fundings of Start-Ups

iVivity, Ario Data Networks, Tacit Networks, Vormetric, NetCell, Yosemite Technologies, Mirra, Front Porch Digital, CentrePath and DiskSites

iVivity , designer of an intelligent “storage server on chip” processor, has closed a $26 million round of financing, bringing total funding to $51 million.

Ario Data Networks has completed a $17 million 4th round of venture financing, raising total funding to date to $34.3 million, to expand its activities centered on an OEM building block for SATA and SAS storage subsystem solutions.

Tacit Networks has now attained a total of $24.2 million in financial funding, after a 2nd round for $16.9 million. The company is involved in caching appliances to create a shared storage infrastructure between remote offices over WAN.

Vormetric, formerly Sotera Networks, in storage security appliances, has just concluded a $15 million round, for total financing now at $32 million.

NetCell, which makes ATA and SATA host adapter storage acceleration silicon devices, closed a $13.7 million financing round.

To expand its international sales, Yosemite Technologies, founded in 1996, has secured $10 million in equity funding, after a 1st round of $5 million last year.

Mirra, formerly Ispiri, which makes a personal server with automated backup, raised $8 million in funding.

Front Porch Digital completed $5 million in financing to expand its software and services business for conversion of audio, video, images, text and data into digital formats.

One of the three founders of EMC in 1979, Roger Marino has put some of his own money in a $4 million 3rd financial round of CentrePath, which offers network management software and consulting services in data transport networks and SANs. The CEO of the company, Jim Sullivan, was an EMC executive for 12 years.

DiskSites has closed the first phase of its financing round by securing $3.5 million, for a total of $9 million in funds raised to date. The firm sells an appliance or a software license to centralized data resources over a WAN.
