History 2004: French Optical Disc Manufacturer MPO Group Acquired Assets and European Subsidiaries of Emtec Consumer Media

Which boasts hundred or so people in A/V cassette distribution, as well as floppy disks, CD-Rs and DVD-Rs.

French optical disc manufacturer MPO Group acquired the assets and the European subsidiaries of Emtec Consumer Media, which boasts a hundred or so people in audio/video cassette distribution, as well as floppy disks, CD-Rs and DVD-Rs for the consumer market.

This will enable MPO to secure the Emtec brand name, much better known than its own Hi-Space brand, not to mention the addition of the kind of competent sales team it lacked in Austria, Benelux, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Poland. A new subsidiary has been formed, MPO-Tec, located in Mannheim, Germany.

MPO has even forecasted that the acquisition could boost its annual sales from €190 to €300 millions.

The piecemeal dismantling of Emtec continues apace, given that Imation had already acquired the German company’s Magstar computer tape assets. Also recently, some former employees of Emtec Magnetic formed an independent company in German known as Deltona, to sell recording media.
