History 2003: Firms in New Backup/Restore/Replication Hardware and/or Software Technologies

As is often the case, the innovation here came more frequently from start-ups than from computer giants, which aren’t too inclined to be the first to move, preferring to let others stick their necks out, only following along once the choice is obvious.

Neither Legato/EMC, Tivoli nor Veritas have a veritable real-time backup offer yet, even if they have been closely following the subject. Only StorageTek is already present, among larger firms. The rest are all start-ups, and primarily in USA.
