History 2003: Mitsui Stops CD-R and DVD-R Manufacturing
U.S. business sold to Computer Support Italcard
By Jean Jacques Maleval | December 22, 2023 at 2:00 pmMitsui Chemicals had already sold off a majority stake in its CD/DVD-R manufacturing plant in Ensisheim, France, to Computer Support Italcard S.r.d. (CSI) of Italy last year.
It has just sold off its U.S. subsidiary, Mitsui Advance Media, to the same CSI.
As a result, Mitsui finds itself out of the CD-R and DVD-R manufacturing arena entirely. The U.S. company will change its name to MAM-A.
With these acquisitions, CSI will command approximately $130 million in annual sales of CD-R, DVDR, floppy disks, paper products, CD-ROM and CD-audio.
This article is an abstract of news published on issue 186 on July 2003 from the former paper version of Computer Data Storage Newsletter.
Note: CSI was placed in “amicale liquidation” in France in December 2005.
