History 2003: Megan Media Plans to Produce 7.5 Million CD/DVD-Rs Per Month

The publicly-traded Malaysian company based in Selangor Darul Ehsan commenced manufacturing optical discs in 1999 at the Subang Jaya Industrial Estate. It also produces floppy disks.
According to Nikkei Electronics Asia, it grew its monthly production capacity from 1.5 million in 2000 to 5.5 million CD-Rs and DVD-Rs per month as of last October, and plans to increase to 7.5 million a month with the set-up of 2 more production lines by April.
Megan Media has recently pumped $7.9 million into expanding its current operations, including $3.1 million to build a new factory to expand monthly production capacity to 20.5 million pieces, and $4.8 million for the purchase of two new machines.
The company is also making a move into the Chinese market through a recent memorandum of understanding signed with Beidaihe Qinhuandao Xingyuan Science Development Co Ltd to undertake jointly the manufacturing and distribution of data storage products. Megan sells primarily to OEMs, and is very close to MJC (Singapore) Pte. Ltd.
