By Jean Jacques Maleval | July 5, 2023 at 2:01 pmToshiba, the only company to manufacture 1.8-inch HDDs, yet also involved in 2.5-inch units, chose Comdex to clarify its view of the market for HDD applications in the emerging consumer sector.
The company cites Trendfocus data, according to which this market represented more than 2 million devices in 2000, and will enjoy average annual growth of 79% through 2005.
Equally evoked by Toshiba, IDC also projects robust growth for drives in the consumer market, particularly with 2.5-inch HDDs for digital camera and audio player applications, which represent nearly half of forecast shipments in 2002.
