History 2002: First Wireless Drive from Toshiba

5GB 1.8-inch HDD

Toshiba recently demonstrated to an audience in Japan its Bluetooth Pocket Server.

The device is a small battery-powered unit that contains a 5GB 1.8-inch HDD capable of wireless transfer of data to PDAs and PCs.

Among potential applications, the Japanese company highlights the possibility that stored presentation data can be transmitted to a Bluetooth-enabled printer or projector without the need for an intermediary PC.

When large volumes of data do have to be transferred to a PC, an integrated USB port can be used to optimize the speed of the operation .

The product will be launched this fall for around ¥50,000 ($394)

Note: There was finally no market for wireless HDDs.
