Hammerspace Officially Acquires Rozo Systems

To expand performance capabilities of unstructured data orchestration system

Hammerspace, Inc., in data orchestration of enterprise file data to any compute, application, or user anywhere, announced the acquisition of Rozo Systems SAS, the creator of the Mojette Transform, the patented erasure coding technology which, as part of the Hammerspace Data Orchestration System, enables users to maximize performance in any location, expand to hyperscale capacity, and adapt to virtually any workload as it spans from the edge, to data centers, and the cloud.

Importance of Delivering Cost-Effective Performance, Everywhere
Data-driven organizations have rapidly become more decentralized, with files being created, analyzed, and moved across locations constantly. The speed of capturing the data, identifying which is most valuable, and making the valuable data available to the applications and users anywhere they need will differentiate the successful businesses of the future.

Organizations need performance throughout their workflows,” said Pierre Evenou, previous Rozo founder and CEO. “The integration of Rozo’s technology into the Hammerspace Data Orchestration System will help organizations get the most out of their expensive data creation instruments and compute clusters while also accelerating data analytics and collaboration.”

Rozo’s performance capabilities, using industry-standard hardware, can deliver 1Tb/s+ with 8 commodity servers connected on a 200GbE network. Together with the Hammerspace Data Orchestration System, this allows customers to orchestrate files directly to the compute, application, or user at peak performance, nearly saturating the capabilities of their infrastructure. This approach provides maximum flexibility and enables customers to seamlessly expand workflows across any on-prem or cloud storage from any vendor.

Rozo’s best-in-class erasure coding provides the right balance of price, performance, capacity efficiency, resiliency and availability,” said Tony Asaro, SVP business development, Hammerspace. “This is essential for organizations with massive amounts of data for multi-site and hybrid cloud environments. Additionally, the Rozo team has years of experience and expertise in file systems, networking, performance and more, further bolstering Hammerspace’s technical leadership.”

Following our recent article, almost one month ago, that unveiled that acquisition done in November 2022, Hammerspace didn't have any other choice to make that operation official now.

For Rozo team, it is a good news to finally find a new home, even a non French one, for their "French" technology and product around scale-out NAS and innovative erasure coding named the Mojette transform.

For Hammerspace, a good bargain at a very compelling price, that strengthens their networked/distributed/global file system service able to offer now a storage foundation for some specific use cases. And above all, the Californian company acquires the Mojette transform, an alternative erasure coding technology, originally invented and developed at University of Nantes, France, used and adopted by a few famous M&E LA based customers.
