History 2001: HP to Acquire StorageApps
For hefty $350 million
By Jean Jacques Maleval | March 28, 2023 at 2:01 pmHewlett-Packard has acquired StorageApps in a stock-for-stock transaction valued at $350 million.
StorageApps, formerly Raid Power, brings to HP above all its expertise in storage virtualization software for the latter’s FSAM strategy.
Recall that StorageNetworks and LSI were among the financial investors in StorageApps. The latter firm was also a distributor of LSI SANs, as well as 2 other models from HDS, the Thunder 9200 and the Lightning 9900 also resold by HP. The company additionally counts Dell Computer as an OEM for its software products. Dell, in turn, held an equity stake in StorageApps, but will now most likely have to look elsewhere, among StorageApps competitors, of which there is no shortage.
