History 2000: WW Storage Management Software to Reach $14.7 Billion in 2004

$4.2 billion in 1999, 47% increase over 1998

The WW storage management software market experienced explosive growth in 1999 with new license revenue totaling $4.2 billion, a 47% increase over 1998 revenue, according to Dataquest in its new report titled Storage Management Software Market Forecast: 2000 to 2004.

The market will continue to thrive, with revenue forecast to be $14.7 billion in 2004. Although the data management segment represents 53% of the overall market, strong growth in the storage infrastructure segment – led by data replication products – and in the enterprise SRM segment will push data management to only 46% of the market by 2004.

Storage growth, driven by the use of Web-based applications, multimedia data and data warehousing implementations, is increasing the demand for better backup and recovery tools. As a result of this strong demand, Dataquest has dramatically increased its forecast for the storage management software market,” said Carolyn DiCenzo, chief analyst for Dataquest’s network, system and storage management software WW program. “Companies are continuing to focus on the storage management environment, consolidating the management and deploying networked tools to expand the reach of the small staffs that are available to manage the growing storage resources.”
