Gilat Satellite Networks in Peru Selects Nakivo Backup & Replication

Nakivo Inc. announced that Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd has selected its Backup & Replication to protect its environment.

Gilat Satellite Networks is a telecom company that for many years has been bringing development to the towns and companies located in the most remote areas of Peru. It offers customers the best business ICT solutions to facilitate development and improve productivity. It has been in Peru since 1999, contributing to the integration of more than 8,000 towns through a public-private partnership with Peru’s FITEL (Telecommunications Investment Fund).

It occupies 5 sites with 90 physical servers and more than 500 VMs. The main VMs, holding applications and databases, manage microwaves, energy and cooling, optical fiber, security, and networking. The end user strongly believes in the importance of backing up critical VMs to ensure that in case of a disaster, every VM can be recovered. Data loss can affect the execution and continuity of the company’s projects and the timely production of reports.

Until recently, the firmused manually created VM snapshots and stored them on a separate storage device. With this approach, quick recovery was not possible, as everything had to be done manually and the process was not centralized. Gilat needed a VM backup solution that could backup a large amount of data reliably and provide fast VM recovery while maintaining BC.

“We installed Nakivo Backup & Replication on a physical server, with Windows Server as OS. The installation was super easy and fast. We downloaded the correct installer and followed the instructions,” he says. “The web interface is quite intuitive in the creation of tasks, simple monitoring of jobs, and showing us only the necessary information. Overall, we are quite happy with the looks and feel of the product.“

“Currently, we backup only our critical servers. Critical servers are backed up weekly on different days, distributing the load. Compared to the other solutions available on the market, Nakivo’s backup is fast and does not slow down any of our other services,” he says.

With the manual snapshots, recovery was not a centralized task for Gilat Satellite Networks and required considerable time from the IT team in the past.
