From 2030 onwards, new types of storage technologies are expected to enter the memory roadmap, complementing 3D-NAND-flash, HDDs, and tapes in the latency/productivity space. In this article, Maarten Rosmeulen, program director of storage memory at imec, introduces two new liquid-based storage concepts: colloidal and electrolithic memory.
