History (1999): WD Acquired for $12 Million Crag Technologies

In storage solutions

Is HDD maker Western Digital diversifying into storage subsystems?

That’s what we deduced, at least, from its recent acquisition, for $12 million in stock, of Crag Technologies.

This spin-off of former Ridge technologies, bought by Adaptec in 1998 for $21.2 million, developed storage solutions for NT servers.

Crag will be operated as a wholly-owned subsidiary of WD under the leadership of SVP and GM Mike Williams who reports directly to WD’s CEO, president and COB Chuck Haggerty.

Initially, Crag’s products are not expected before 9 to 12 months.

This article is an abstract of news published on issue 133 on February 1999 from the former paper version of Computer Data Storage Newsletter.
