Rekind in Indonesia Relies Nakivo Backup & replication

Rekayasa Industri (Rekind) has selected Nakivo Backup & Replication to protect their environment.

It is an Indonesian national company for integrated engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and industry solutions. It was founded in 1981 and is based in Jakarta, Indonesia. In the first 5 years of operation, the company’s main business was in serving the chemical and petrochemical industries.

The company has 2 locations in Indonesia, with several ESXi hosts and more than 20 VMs in their system. VMs store several databases, web servers, and other applications in line with the business. If critical data becomes unavailable, the company’s business processes can be disrupted and the project schedule can be delayed indefinitely, thus becoming an issue. Relying on a VM backup and replication solution minimizes downtime and keeps critical data and applications always available, even when issues occur with the hardware.

In previous years, Rekind relied on 2 other VM backup solutions available on the market. The first solution did not offer VM replication, while the other was not flexible enough and the price was too high.

The company needed a simpler, lighter, and easier to use VM backup solution that offered a variety of functionalities at a reasonable price.

Backup & Replication was introduced to Rekind by PT Integrasindo Mitra Sejati, an IT consultancy in Indonesia. Its technical team helped Rekind get acquainted with the solution.

“We have deployed Backup & Replication via a pre-configured virtual appliance and we also have tried to install the solution on Windows. The process was easy and did not take a long time. The web interface is informative and all the menu items are not difficult to understand. PT Integrasindo Mitra Sejati helped us install on Windows and also they guided us through the deployment via virtual appliance, as well as helped deploy a Transporter to our ESXi host,” says Iwan Mediawan, system administrator, Rekind.

VM backup and VM replication are the functionalities most used by Rekind. The company also deployed several transporters to several ESXi hosts to help improve the backup and replication process.

“We have not tried backing up and replicating all of our VMs yet, but more than 60% is currently being backed up and replicated. VM backup is fast and reliable, while VM replication allows us to replicate VMs to our secondary site. Monitoring the results with VM replication is also awesome, as we never had this functionality with our previous solution. VM replication definitely helps with BC, as we can always power on VM replicas on our secondary site and continue our business operations,” says Mediawan.

In terms of other functionalities, Rekind appreciates instant VM recovery and Microsoft Active Directory integration. “The most interesting feature of Backup & Replication is instant VM recovery. The fact that we can recover entire VMs, and not just individual files, is great. If something happens to one of our VMs, we can recover that VM in literally minutes. And with Microsoft Active Directory integration, user management is much easier when authenticating,” he says.

“What we enjoy about Backup & Replication is the variety of features, deployment flexibility and variety of installation options, as well as reasonable licensing prices. Previously, we did not have VM replication available to us, while now we can replicate our VMs to our secondary site, and ensure BC. In the end, we got one VM backup solution that provides us with both VM backup and VM replication at a justifiable price,” he concluded.
