History (1998): Fujitsu to Invest $280 Million in Factories Notably in Japan

To increase production of 2.5- and 3.5-inch HDDs

Fujitsu will invest 40 billion yen ($280 million) to increase 2.5- and 3.5-in HDD prodction in its factories in Nagano Prefecture, and in its subsidiary in Yamagata Prefecture, both in Japan, as well as in other plants in Thailand and in The Philippines.

The goal is to increase yearly output to 18 million units in March 1999. The Japanese firm wants to grow its share of the WW market from less than 10% currently to 15%.
