History (1998): One Billionth Magnetic Recording Head Shipped by Seagate

Equivalent of storage of 55 stacks of paper reaching from earth to moon

Seagate Technology Inc. became the first company to ship one billion magnetic recording heads for use in Winchester disk drives.

The firm explained that it has supplied enough of these heads to read and write the equivalent in storage of the contents of the entire Library of Congress (532 miles of bookshelves) 24,722x over, or the equivalent of 55 stacks of paper reaching from the earth to the moon …
