History (1997): SCSI Interface on 27% of HDDs in 1998
On 54 million anticipated in 2000
By Jean Jacques Maleval | August 23, 2021 at 1:01 pmNew forecast data from a major industry market research firm shows continued growth for parallel SCSI HDDs.
In 1995, 24 million SCSI drives shipped worldwide. In 2000, 54 million SCSI disk drives are anticipated,” according to the SCSI Trade Association.
If these figures are reconciled with the most recent estimates from Disk/Trend, this represents nearly 27% of all fixed rigid disk drive units in 1995, and 1% more for the year 2000.
SCSI high-capacity removable storage peripherals, including tape, magnetic and optical cartridge drives, accounted for about 3 million worldwide unit shipments in 1995. By 2000, they will account for 20 million. In the year 2000, the 74 million storage peripherals expected to ship with SCSI parallel interfaces will be worth more than $25 billion.
