Summary
Vulnerabilities in IBM Runtime Environment Java were disclosed as part of the IBM Java SDK updates in October 2020 and January 2021. IBM Runtime Environment Java is used by IBM Spectrum Protect Backup-Archive Client, IBM Spectrum Protect for Space Management, and IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments and may be affected by the below vulnerabilities (CVEs). CVEID:   CVE-2020-27221
DESCRIPTION:   Eclipse OpenJ9 is vulnerable to a stack-based buffer overflow when the virtual machine or JNI natives are converting from UTF-8 characters to platform encoding. By sending an overly long string, a remote attacker could overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system or cause the application to crash.

Remediation/Fixes

* The AIX and Linux platforms are only affected if using the web user interface.
** The Macintosh and Windows platforms are only affected by CVE-2020-14782
*** An 8.1.9.2 fix was provided for Macintosh because the Spectrum Protect Backup-Archive Client was stabilized at 8.1.9 for older Mac OS levels.
