History (1996): Seagate Employs 28,000 People in Thailand
At 5 plants
By Jean Jacques Maleval | June 3, 2021 at 2:30 pmSeagate Technology has increased by more than 60% its manufacturing space in Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat), in northeast Thailand, 140 miles from Bangkok.
The new facility, at full capacity, should double Korat’s head gimbal assemblies (HGA) production.
Seagate first announced plans in August 1995 for an initial Thailand HGA facility, a 213,000 square foot plant to be completed later in April, which will employ 6,000 local people.
The new 128,000 square foot facility should create just as many new jobs.
“Our investment in the Karat area represents more than $70 million in land, facilities and equipment,” said Brendan Hegarty, executive VP and COO of Seagate’s recording head group.
The company employs over 28,000 people at 5 disk drive and related component manufacturing plants in central Thailand.
