History (1995): From Sun to Sand

The world’s largest supplier of flash cards, SunDisk Corp. (Santa Clara, CA) has changed its name to SanDisk Corp.

“Over the years, there has been some potential confusion in the computer industry regarding the relationship between SunDisk and Sun Microsystems,” explained president and CEO Eli Harari, who went on to furnish an explanation for the new name. “The SanD in SanDisk stands for silicon.”

It was Sun who originally requested that SunDisk change its name.
