History (1995): MountainGate Acquires Metrum
In DLT, 5.25-inch optical disks, VHS jukeboxes, and library for IBM Magstar
By Jean Jacques Maleval | March 25, 2021 at 2:31 pmA Lockheed Martin company, MountainGate Data Systems (Reno, NV), manufacturer of rugged removable storage devices, has acquired Metrum Peripheral Products, a division of Metrum (Littleton, CO).
The latter has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of Group Technologies (Tampa, FL) since 1992. In the same year, Lockheed Martin Company merged MDB Systems and Cherokee Data Systems under the name of MountainGate.
Two years later, the newly-formed company acquired the Passport family of 3.5-inch removable HDD drives from Quantum.
Metrum was marketing its own DLT, 5.25-inch optical disks and VHS jukeboxes, and recently announced a library for IBM’s 128-track longitudinal Magstar tape cartridges.
MountainGate plans to integrate multimedia solutions including DLT and optical-based technologies into future products.
