History (1995): IBM RAID for Non-IBM Vendors

For the first time, IBM Corp. (San Jose, CA) provides the capability to attach its RAID-5 and 4mm subsystems to computer processors made by non-IBM vendors.

The IBM 7137 Disk Array Subsystem is available for attachment to Sun Sparcstation 10 systems and Sparcserver 1000 servers, for Hewlett-Packard 9000 Model7XX systems.

For example, the price for the 7137 is $49,900 with 8×4.5GB drives.

The IBM 7206 external tape drive Model 005 and its autoloader can be used with Sun Sparcstation 10 Models 4X and 5X, HP 9000 Models 7XX, as well as Digital’s DECstation 5000 Models 125 and 200PX. The external DAT drive costs $2,995, the autoloader $5,895 with a 4-cartridge magazine and $6,080 with a 12-cartridge magazine.
