History (1994): Taiwanese DPC Sells Gigatrend Europe to Interpoint/ADIC

French company will operate under direction of ADIC.

Digital Peripherals Corp. of Taiwan has sold the 76% shares it owned in Gigatrend Europe (Saint-Germain-en-Laye, France) to the US holding Interpoint Corp. (Redmont, WA).

The French company will operate under the direction of ADIC (Redmont, WA), a subsidiary of Interpoint since February 94, and will continue to be headed by MD Michel Grosbost.

The new subsidiary includes 17 people and has offices in Ismaning, Germany.

There is no more link between DPC and Gigatrend Europe. But the Taiwanese company remains the major shareholder of integrator Gigatrend Inc. (Carlsbad, CA) and RAID controller manufacturer Ultrastor Corp. (Irvine, CA).

For one part of their activity, Gigatrend Inc. and Gigatrend Europe will now be in competition, so the French company’s name could possibly be changed into ADIC Europe which will remain integrator but also distributor of ADIC products.

Gigatrend Europe was already a supplier of solutions based on ADIC’s library. This firm manufactures 4mm and 8mm automated tape libraries with OEM partners like Tecmar, Legacy and Emerald. They can be purchased with HSM application for NetWare from Avail Systems.

Interpoint is a manufacturer of high-end DC-to-DC power supplies and has been looking for a diversification in storage since the beginning of the year.
