IBM Cloud Object Storage File Access software-defined solution provides an SMB and NFS protocol interface for archiving, retention, and active archiving

IBM Cloud Object Storage File Access is a software-defined solution providing an SMB and NFS protocol interface for applications to store and retrieve infrequently used files on company’s Cloud Object Storage for archiving, retention, and active archiving either on-premises or in the company’s Cloud.

Ibm Cloud Object Storage File Access

This solution is for archiving, retention, and active archiving use cases as it also provides a built-in capability to discover and migrate files form existing file systems to Cloud Object Storage.

IBM Cloud Object Storage File Access delivers:

  • Capacity and performance
    • File data in Cloud Object Storage (on premises or in IBM Cloud) can scale from hundreds of terabytes to petabytes and exabytes for high-capacity scalability
    • High-performance scalability using on-demand scale-up and scale-out options for solution deployment
    • Local caching for low-latency access to frequently used files, including files pinned to local cache
    • Ability to write directly to Cloud Object Storage, even over high-latency links, to efficiently utilize network capacity for better upload performance
  • HA and DR using active/passive deployment of virtual appliances
  • Compatible with NFS 3.0, SMB 2.0, and SMB 3.x
  • Simplified management using centralized browser-based administration
  • Support for VMware, Kernel-based VM, Hyper-V hypervisors, and all commonly used browsers
  • Data reduction of archived data using source-based compression and deduplication
  • Cyber resiliency using unlimited snapshots of archived file systems to recover from manual errors, ransomware, and malware attacks
  • Multitenancy support
  • File policy support
  • FIPS 140-2 compliance certification
  • Data management, safety, and security
    • Support for Active Directory
    • Role-based access control (RBAC) and support for access control list
    • Owner-level and folder-level quotas
    • Internet Content Adaptation Protocol (ICAP) antivirus support when you bring your own antivirus license
    • Data encryption at rest and in motion
    • Fingerprinting for data in transit security
    • Digital Certificates to protect vs. man-in-the-middle attacks
    • Encryption Key Vault for remote data shredding
    • Logging and auditing
    • IP whitelisting to permit management functions only from approved network locations
    • All controls are behind the firewall to minimize security breaches
    • Secure development methodology, including extensive vulnerability testing
