SAP Assigned Four Patents

Secure cloud storage, key value based block, providing extended file storage for applications, unified architecture for hybrid database storage using fragments

Secure cloud storage
SAP SE, Walldorf, Germany, has been assigned a patent (10,754,973) developed by Ocher, Alexander, and Lapitski, Viktor, San Francisco, CA, for a “
secure cloud storage system.

The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: Disclosed herein are system, method, and computer program product embodiments for a secured cloud storage system. An embodiment operates by receiving a compressed file comprising data that has been compressed using a compression algorithm. The compressed data is divided into a plurality of separate files. A password for each of the separate files is determined. Each of the separate files is encrypted with its corresponding password. The encrypted files are stored across a plurality of servers.

The patent application was filed on January 16, 2018 (15/872,336).

Key value based block Device
SAP SE, Walldorf, Germany, has been assigned a patent (10,754,562) developed by Schreter, Ivan, Malsch, Germany, for a “
key value based block device.

The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: A method for providing block access on top of a key-value store comprising a distributed data storage system is provided. The method can include receiving, at a block device, a first input/output operation requesting one or more data blocks. The first input/output operation can be translated into a second input/output operation requesting one or more key-value pairs. The second input/output operation can be performed by at least sending the second input/output operation to the key-value store. Related systems and articles of manufacture, including computer program products, are also provided.

The patent application was filed on July 6, 2018 (16/029,453).

Providing extended file storage for applications
SAP SE, Walldorf, Germany, has been assigned a patent (10,747,730) developed by Dimitrov, Vencislav, Pernik, Bulgaria, Jurova, Maria, Sofia, Bulgaria, and Rashidov, Rashid, Popovo, Bulgaria, for “
providing extended file storage for applications.

The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: Various embodiments of systems and methods for providing extended file storage for cloud applications are described herein. The method involves receiving a deployment request from a cloud application for file storage service, at the time of deployment. The deployment request includes information identifying a local folder and a mode of storage. The metadata relating to the information in the deployment request is stored in a persistent storage. Further, in response to receiving a start request to run the cloud application an application virtual machine is allocated and a block level storage volume is identified and attached to the application virtual machine. Further, the identified block level storage volume is mapped to the local folder identified in the stored metadata and the application virtual machine running the cloud application is started. The block level storage volume mapped to the local folder is accessed by application processes for performing read/write operations.

The patent application was filed on October 10, 2014 (14/511,185).

Unified architecture for hybrid database storage using fragments
SAP SE, Walldorf, Germany, has been assigned a patent (10,740,036) developed by Schreter, Ivan, Malsch, Germany, Thomsen, Dirk, Heidelberg, Germany, Florendo, Colin, Malborough, MA, and French, Blaine, Concord, MA, for an “
unified architecture for hybrid database storage using fragments.

The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: Data records of a data set can be stored in multiple main part fragments retained in on-disk storage. Each fragment can include a number of data records that is equal to or less than a defined maximum fragment size. Using a compression that is optimized for each fragment, each fragment can be compressed. After reading at least one of the fragments into main system memory from the on-disk storage, an operation can be performed on the fragment or fragments while the in the main system memory.

The patent application was filed on June 23, 2017 (15/632,110).
