The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: Methods, systems, and computer readable media may be operable to facilitate the allocation of digital video recorder storage. Storage for a device such as a digital video recorder may be partitioned into a plurality of segments, and each segment may be allocated to a specified user. The device may be configured to allocate a specified amount or percentage of storage to each one of a plurality of users. When a request to record a piece of content is received by the device, the device may identify the user requesting the recording, and the piece of content may be recorded and stored within a portion of device storage that is allocated to the user. If there is not enough room in storage allocated to the user to store the requested content, the device may identify and remove one or more recordings from the portion of storage allocated to the user.
