History (1992): BusTek Acquires Chantal Systems

And becomes BusLogic.

BusTek Corp. (Santa Clara, CA), supplier of SCSI bus master host adapters and network controllers, has purchased the assets of Chantal Systems Corp. (San Diego, CA), developer of disk array software products.

BusTek, a $10 million company, also announced it has changed its corporate name to BusLogic Inc.

Founded in 1978, Chantal filed under Chapter XI, then under Chapter VII. Last May, the Chapter VII Trustee in the Bankruptcy proceeding of Chantal had proposed to sell the assets of this firm for $400,000 cash.

As part of the agreement, Buslogic has acquired full rights to Chantal’s source code, its Paragon RAID-5 disk array software, a standard SCSI driver called Cornerstone, and NetCal, a NetWare workgroup scheduler product.

These products will be sold by BusLogic under the Chantal name but Chantal Systems will function as a separate division of Buslogic, and will remain in San Diego.
