Flash Memory Summit Finally on October 20-22

But as virtual event

Flash Memory Summit (FMS) will hold its 15th annual conference as a virtual event on October 20-22.

By going virtual, it offers an opportunity to expand its audience and bring together storage designers, integrators, and IT storage professionals from around the world. It offers a global exchange of the newest ideas and technology advances to help attendees create the most competitive, high-performance storage solutions.

Virtual FMS will include:

  • Keynotes and presentations from storage providers including AMD, Broadcom, Cisco, Dell EMC, HPE, IBM, Intel, KIOXIA (formerly Toshiba Memory), Lenovo, Micron, Microsoft, NVIDIA, NetApp, Samsung, and Western Digital.
  • Start-up companies include Infinidat, LightBits Labs, MemVerge, PlIO/s, Rockport Networks, WekaIO, and Vast Data.
  • Expert insights on high-performance storage applications such as real-time analytics, AI/ML, big data, cloud, and hyperscale infrastructure environments.
  • Chat with the experts: if you ask the toughest questions, they will answer.
  • Annual awards and recognition programs, including:
    • Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes industry leaders pioneering the development and use of flash memory
    • Best of Show Awards recognize vendor innovation for products and application solutions
    • SuperWomen in Flash Award recognizes outstanding leadership of women in the storage industry

Network with all of the major companies in the virtual expo and engage in conversations with all of your fellow colleagues

Virtual FMS continues our 15-year commitment to empower attendees to make the best decisions for their storage projects,” said Chuck Sobey, virtual FMS conference chair. “By bringing together the leading storage experts to deliver best-of-breed content, FMS remains the best continuing education opportunity in the storage industry.

Flash Memory Summit Becoming Virtual Because of Covid-19
And reported from August to next October
June 9, 2020 | Press Release

Comments

The 15th edition of Flash Memory Summit (FMS) conference and expo, concentrated on flash and SSD, was supposed to live and to be held in Santa Clara, CA, on August 5-8, but, because of Covid-19, organizers decided to transform it in a virtual event announced to be reported in October, and now more precisely on October 20-22.

It was extremely difficult to organize the live event in August in USA - the plane we booked for this month was cancelled -. It may be possible in October, but the organizers didn't want to take any risk and prefer to change the format in a virtual event, even if almost 75% of participants come from the San Francisco Bay Area. This could lead to less sponsors and (virtual) visitors than in the past.

Without doubt, FMS, even if very technical, is since several years the #1 independent storage event worldwide.

SNIA Europe in Germany, Storage Expo UK and Stockage in France disappear many years ago.

Formerly there were also big shows with a lot of storage exhibitors like Sicob, Comdex or CeBIT, also dead. Today you can see a lot of them in event like NAB, CES, Computex, and Supercomputing, more vertically oriented but getting good results.

Currently big storage vendors, including Acronis, Dell, Fujitsu, NetApp, Rubrik, Veeam, VMworld this year, prefer to receive their clients in their own private show and not visiting the stands of competitors.

In 2019, there were 130 exhibitors and sponsors at FMS with approximately 6,000 attendees ,according to the organizer, so pretty stable compared with 2018. In 2017, registration was an all-time high, up 6% over 2016, with over 6,200 visitors.
