History (1992): Intel and Conner to Jointly Develop Flash Memory-Based SSD
Expected to be introduced in 2H92
By Jean Jacques Maleval | May 26, 2020 at 2:17 pmConner Peripherals (San Jose, CA) and Intel Corp. (Santa Clara, CA) have confirmed that they have a joint product and technology development contract focused on designing and bringing to market proprietary flash memory-based solid-state disk storage products.
The flash products will address the rigorous performance, size, weight and low-power requirements of emerging notebook, pen-based and hand-held computers, as well as such non-computer applications as industrial equipment, smart peripherals and consumer electronics.
The two companies expect to introduce the first flash product in the second half of 1992.
“This agreement with Intel is a good example of our philosophy to identify customer needs sooner and fill them faster than our competition, ” said Finis Conner, chairman and CEO.
Under terms of the agreement, Conner will contribute its expertise in disk drive electronics, IDE standard interfaces and drive manufacturing experience. Intel provides its flash memory design, process technology, packaging and component manufacturing experience.
