Qnap TS-230 Desktop 2-Bay NAS for Home Media Hub and File Center

Qnap Systems, Inc. launched the TS-230, a lightweight, quiet, and feature-rich NAS that can fit into any living environment.

Adorned with a refreshing baby blue hue, it is for home and daily central storage, backup, photo and video sharing. All digital assets on it are securely protected by the snapshot function. Coupled with multimedia apps and transcoding feature support, it is an entry-level NAS for creating a smart and fun lifestyle.

The TS-230 uses a Realtek Semiconductor Corp.‘s RTD1296 quad-core 1.4GHz processor and built-in 2GB DDR4 RAM for meeting personal and home NAS applications. It provides 1Gb port and supports 6Gb SATA HDDs, AES-256 encryption, and SSD caching. The cooling fan uses an HDB type Sintetico bearing fan for maintaining high airflow and low noise, providing better cooling to ensure constant system operation. The tool-less HDD installation makes it setup easy.

The TS-230 features QTS OS that supports file storage, sharing, backup, synchronization, and data protection. Users can regularly backup Windows or macOS data to the NAS for centralized management and file sharing, while utilizing the HBS app to backup NAS data to the cloud. The NAS capability for creating multiple snapshot versions is pragmatic for protecting data vs. encryption-based locker viruses, and recovering data back to a specific period. More useful features include Qfiling for automated file organization, Qsirch for searches of specific files or pictures by keyword or color, Qsync for synchronizing files across multiple devices, such as NAS, mobile devices, computers, and mobile apps for remote NAS access with increased productivity at work and home.

The TS-230 can also perform as a home media hub. It supports Plex for media streaming and 4K (H.264) real-time transcoding for converting videos to universal file formats that can be played smoothly on multiple devices. The AI-powered QuMagie app brings intelligent and streamlined photo management by automatically organizing AI AIbums. Combined with its companion app QuMagie Mobile, users can browse NAS photos anytime anywhere. The built-in QTS App Center provides more install-on-demand apps, including tools for backup/sync, content management, communications, download, and entertainment, for extending NAS functionalities. For Docker users, installing Container Station on the TS-230 can facilitate containerized applications, such as smart homes or multimedia applications.
