History (1991): Philips and Du Pont Optical European Business Transfer to Philips

190 employees involved in business move

Du Pont N.V. Philips of the Netherlands, as part of the sale of their joint venture, Philips and Du Pont Optical (PDO), intends to transfer full ownership of PDO’s European business to Philips.

This agreement will include PDO’s European-based 5.25-inch and 3.25-inch glass rewritable, CD-ROM and Professional Interactive Videodisks, and 12-inch WORM business and related facilities in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, and Blackburn, UK.

It does not include any US-based business. Approximately 190 employees will be involved in the business transfer.

Du Pont Philips are in the process of finalizing sales plans for the polymer rewritable media business.

A recent announcement was made concerning the sale of PDO’s US CD-ROM business to Disc Manufacturing, Inc., a Quixote Group company.
