History (1991): At Least 3 Chinese Firms Already Producing HDD R/W Heads

By Jean Jacques Maleval | April 1, 2020 at 2:25 pmNear Hong Kong, at least three Chinese firms are already producing HDD R/W heads, all three Hong Kong-funded joint ventures in the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone area.
Their customers include Conner, Maxtor, Seagate and other Asian HDD manufacturers.
Kaifa Technology (Sekon) Ltd. produced 1.7 million heads last year and expects this year’s output to reach 2.5 million units. The maximum production capacity is 3.5 million heads.
The two other manufacturers, Applied Material Corp. (AMC) and SAE Magnetics (HK) Ltd. were set up last year.
