History (1991): Plus Development to Merge With Quantum Distribution

By Jean Jacques Maleval | March 31, 2020 at 2:25 pmQuantum Commercial Products is a new business unit that will include Quantum’s industrial distribution organization and Plus Development Corp. (Milpitas, CA), the wholly-owned subsidiary of Quantum, specialized in HDD subsystems for the PC market.
The new $300 million unit will be headed by Jeff A. Heimbuck, president of Plus Development, who will report to David. Brown, vice chairman and COO of Quantum.
Plus Development had formerly an office in Starnberg (Germany).
The target of this proceeding, that will operate as of October 1, is to gather Quantum’s retail and industrial marketing forces for more efficiency.

Plus Development, with about 150 employees, contributed about 10% of Quantum’s $878 million revenues for FY91 ended June 25. The company’s industrial distribution operations contributed about 20%.
Recently, Plus Development unveiled a new family of 3.5-inch, 9ms access time HDDs for IBM Micro Channel Systems allowing users to increase their mass storage by at least 52MB without discarding the drive they already own. The expected street price of the new Plus DriveKit is $529 for the 52MB subsystem, $629 for 80MB, $779 for 105MB, $1,379 for 210MB and $2,429 for 425MB.
