History (1991): Singapore HDD Land

Producing about half of WW disk drives

Singapore, the hard disk drive land, exported 7.18 million Singapore dollars worth of HDDs in 1990 compared with 5.47 million in 1989, a 31% growth.

This amounts to about half of the WW HDD production.

The sales of these drives account for more than 7.5%t of the country’s total exports in 1990.

These units are mostly sent to USA, East Asia and to Europe.

Among the Singapore manufacturers there are Conner Peripherals, Integral Peripherals, Maxtor/MiniScribe, Micropolis, Seagate and Rodime.
