Actifio Details Hybrid, Multi-Cloud, Database Advances in 10c Release in CUBE Conversation Series

As it releases an advanced platform to date to meet enterprises’ needs for instant re-use of massive databases regardless of where they reside, Actifio, Inc. is detailing the enabling role of its software in the hybrid and multi-cloud journeys of its customers through a series of conversations featured on the CUBE.

“The secular trends around hybrid and multi-cloud and the reliance on different databases really play to our existing strengths, and 10c builds on those strengths,” explained Brian Reagan, CMO, Actifio. “As we saw digital transformation and application modernization initiatives take hold in just about every enterprise, our database capabilities have really helped us land significant enterprise accounts then expand our overall data management role in those accounts.“

The company announced Actifio 10c in December, 2019, as the newest version of secure, cloud-centric copy data management platform that helps enterprises consume, migrate and use cloud services faster and at lower costs for data-driven transformation initiatives.

Ashok Ramu, CTO, Actifio, said: “A lot of enterprises are moving production workloads to the cloud, and being infrastructure agnostic, we’re running production workloads on seven different cloud platforms. We continue to expand and enrich our database capabilities, which we believe are second to none in the industry, including SAP HANA, Oracle, SQL Server, Db2, and the Linux-based databases like MongoDB and NoSQL. As our customers were talking to us about their application modernization, they were moving more of their front-end capabilities to containers, and they wanted the data to come with it.“

He continued: “We’ve made a lot of the new databases – particularly the NoSQL databases, the Mongos and HANAs – first-class citizens with Actifio 10c, which means we understand not just the database, but also the ecosystem that the database lives in. Another major aspect is containers. We’re seeing legacy data being presented into containers, and there is a bridge required for that. Containers can be brought up but they’re lifeless unless you give them data. So Actifio now becomes the bridge in bringing up the container using Kubernetes or whatever framework you have, and marrying the data into the container framework. As organizations evolve from yesterday’s architectures to today’s, they need this bridge to navigate that migration process. Actifio, being the data normalization platform, is helping them tremendously.“

The company’s patented Virtual Data Pipeline (VDP) software reduces provisioning time of massive database clones by more than 99% from 14 days (for traditional cloning methods) to less than 2 hours, giving developers access to the necessary data much faster for testing. For organizations, this ability to store a database in a matter of minutes provides a level of comfort and stability in application deployment.
