FlashSystem 5030 control enclosure models
offer high level of performance, scalability, and functionality:

  • Two 6-core processors and up to 64GB of cache
  • Support for 504 drives per system with the attachment of 8 FlashSystem 5000 High Density LFF expansion enclosures and 1,008 drives with a two-way clustered configuration
  • Data reduction pools with deduplication, compression, and thin provisioning for improved storage efficiency
  • Encryption of data at rest stored within the FlashSystem 5030 system

FlashSystem 5010 control enclosure models
offer entry-level performance, scalability, and functionality:

  • Two 2-core processors and up to 64GB of cache
  • Support for 392 drives per system with the attachment of 4 FlashSystem 5000 High Density LFF expansion enclosures
  • Data reduction pools with thin provisioning for improved storage efficiency

All FlashSystem 5000 models include:

  • A 2U, 19-inch rackmount enclosure with either AC or DC power
  • Dual-active intelligent array node canisters
  • 12 3.5-inch LFF or 24 2.5-inch SFF drive slots within the enclosure
  • Support for the attachment of FlashSystem 5000 12Gb SAS expansion enclosures

  • Support for optional licensed features, including thin provisioning, Easy Tier, FlashCopy, and remote mirroring
  • IBM System Storage Easy Tier for automatic migration of frequently accessed data from HDDs to high performing SSDs
  • FlashCopy for creating copies of data for backup or application testing
  • Remote mirroring for data replication between systems at different locations through Metro Mirror and
  • Global Mirror functions
  • Interoperability support with support for most major server platforms and OSs
  • One-way data migration to move data onto a FlashSystem 5000 system

The three FlashSystem 5000 expansion enclosure models are 12G, 24G, and 92G. Model 12G (LFF) supports up to 12 3.5-inch drives, while model 24G (SFF) supports up to 24 2.5-inch drives. The 92G holds 92 3.5-inch SAS. High-performance HDDs, high-capacity nearline HDDs, and SSDs are supported. Drives of the same form factor can be intermixed within an enclosure, and LFF and SFF expansion enclosures can be intermixed within a FlashSystem 5000 system.

All FlashSystem 5000 functional capabilities are provided through Spectrum Virtualize Licensed Machine Code.

Key requirements: FlashSystem 5000 requires Spectrum Virtualize licensed machine code level 8.2.1, or later.
