Hoya Corp. reported financial results for third quarter fiscal year results ended December 2019.
Global revenue for the quarter reached ¥143.54 billion up 2% Q/Q and 3% Y/Y.
The is the world’s biggest maker of glass disks for HDDs.
For HDD substrates including marks and blanck, sales reached ¥43.9 billion for the quarter, up 15% Y/Y. The Y/Y growth reached +17% growth for HDD substrates only
3.5-inch platter sales for the quarter was 2.5x due to increased demand related to data centers. They now account for 42% of total sales.
Going forward, the company plans new factory in Laos, Vietnam, producing 3.5-inch substrates and shipping sample products beginning next April. Mass production will begin by 2HFY20 after qualification process.
For next quarter, HDD substrate sales is expected to decline Q/Q due to seasonality (Chinese New Year).
However, the Japanese company expects growth on a Y/Y basis for global revenue: ¥144.6 billion for 4FQ19, up 2% Y/Y, and ¥586.0 billion for FY19, up 4% Y/Y.
