Aerospike V.4.8 Delivers Durability and Performance With Data Stored in Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory

Ensures every single write is confirmed in mission-critical NoSQL applications at machine speed and scale.

Aerospike Inc. announced the availability of version 4.8.

Aerospike 4.8

This release enhances the company’s Hybrid-Memory Architecture to enable both database indexes and data to be stored in Intel Corp.‘s Optane DC persistent memory.

Aerospike is not like traditional NoSQL and in-memory databases that experience long reboot times during unexpected service disruptions and scheduled maintenance and migrations, which, for mission-critical applications, can result in millions of dollars of lost revenue and lost customers. In addition, legacy NoSQL databases are not durable enough for applications where lost data can result in regulatory compliance issues and significant financial penalties. V.4.8, with indices and data stored in PMEM, ensures every single write is confirmed to disk with no data loss at performance levels exceeding prior releases.

It can be configured with both indices and data stored in persistent memory. Storing indices in persistent memory allows a node to be restarted in minutes, rather than hours typical of traditional NoSQL and in-memory databases. This can save millions of dollars that would otherwise result from scheduled maintenance and cloud migrations. Storing data in persistent memory additionally boosts operational performance because of near-DRAM levels of latency and throughput. Combined with consistency, the firm’s solution can provide the durability required for mission-critical applications, where lost data can result in regulatory compliance issues and financial penalties.

Aerospike’s unique, hardware-optimized NoSQL database platform unlocks ultra-fast runtime performance, unlike alternative solutions that are not as deeply integrated with the underlying hardware,” said Srini Srinivasan, chief product officer and founder, Aerospike. “Aerospike Enterprise Edition release 4.8 eliminates the trade-offs between durability and performance and initial testing shows a 50% increase in performance over previous versions while maintaining maximum durability to protect data and transaction integrity.

Hardware Optimized Data Platform for Machine Speed and Scale
Last year, the company became the first commercially available open database to support Intel Corp.‘s Optane DC persistent memory, a new class of memory and storage technology architected for data-intensive applications that require low latency, durability and data consistency. Recently, the firm was the first commercial database to support the Intel Ethernet 800 Series with Application Device Queues (ADQ) on second gen Xeon Scalable platforms.

Intel Optane DC persistent memory delivers a combination of data persistence and DRAM-like performance, a powerful combination in the hands of innovative developers like Aerospike,” said Alper Ilkbahar, VP and GM, memory and storage products group, Intel. “Near-instantaneous commitment of every transaction to Intel’s persistent memory advances NoSQL database resilience and reliability not previously possible without prohibitive expense.

Many forward-looking enterprises today are looking to reap the benefits of data-rich, real-time modern applications that can be deployed at scale,” said James Curtis, senior analyst, data, AI and analytics, 451 Research. “Aerospike, with its hybrid-memory architecture that blends hardware, storage and memory architecture, is targeting the modern applications space, giving enterprises an alternative database choice in a highly competitive space.

Aerospike 4.8 will be available in this month.
