History (1990): Muntifunction Optical Drives Will Beat WORM Units
According to IDC
By Jean Jacques Maleval | December 11, 2019 at 1:55 pmAccording to International Data Corp.’s analyzes, optical WORM drives are not expected to have an easy future.
Their market share is already dropping for the benefit of dual function optical units.
IDC says that 30,000 WORM drives were shipped in 1988, 35,000 in 1989 and only 32,000 this year.
Shipments of rewritable optical drives were 30,000 in 1989 and will amount to 50,000 this year.
But the highest growth concerns multifunction optical units: 750 in 1990, 40,000 in 1992 and 120,000 in 1995.
