Israeli Start-Up E8 Storage Acquired by Amazon

According to reliable Israeli source Globes, Amazon is acquiring Israeli storage technology startup E8 Storage, Inc. (web site now closed) for a sum estimated at $50 to $60 million on July 31, 2019.

All employees will join Amazon Web Services‘ development center in Tel Aviv.

It’s historically only the second acquisition in storage of Amazon, after Israeli CloudEndure, in BC software solutions for DR, for $200 million in January 2019,

Based in Santa Clara, CA, for sales and marketing, with R&D operations in Tel Aviv, E8 Storage was co-founded in November 2014 by storage veterans from IBM-XIV CEO Zivan Ori and Alex Friedman, VP R&D.

It got a total $18.3 million in financial funding including $12.3 million in 2016 in series B, investors being Accel Partners, Magma Venture Capital and Vertex Israel.

Now with 25 employees, the private company offers centralized NVMe enterprise all-flash solution, providing flash storage with a rack-scale architecture for the enterprise and software-defined cloud, delivering 10 times the performance for half the cost of existing storage products, according to the start-up. Its appliance E8-D24 (2U, 24×2.5-inch), at $2-$3/GB, running on Dell, HP and Lenovo, is an array that provides an trifecta by combining the performance of NVMe drives, the high availability and reliability of centralized storage, and the high scalability of scale-out solutions.

It targets hyperscale data centers, financials, retailers and HPC.

In recent years, E8 Storage has been working in collaboration with Intel and Mellanox.
