History (1989): Anti-Dumping Duties for Japanese Floppy Disk Manufacturers

Member of th U.S. federal government, the International Trade Commission assigned a 27.7 to 51% tax on FDs imported from Japan for dumping.

Verbatim (Chalotte, NC), an Eastman Kodak subsidiary, started this procedure one year ago. The companies involved are notably Fuji, Kao, Hitachi, Maxell and Sony.

There are a dozen FD manufacturers with plants in the U.S.

• Sony: 51%
• Hitachi Maxell 27.7%
• Fuji Photo Film 50.5%
• All others 43%
