Starline PetaSAN: Ceph, iSCSI and NVMe in One Scale-Out SAN Solution
Benefits of scalable Ceph cluster combined with native and redundant MPIO iSCSI capabilities for Windows Server and VMware
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on June 20, 2019 at 2:35 pmStarline Computer GmbH‘s technicians are on the lookout for solutions for their customers.
With PetaSAN, they found an open source-based software with which unlimited scalable SDS can be managed easily as an iSCSI cluster with cloud connection.
Sample configuration of an HA cluster with separate storage and monitor nodes. However, each system is individually tailored to the customer’s needs.
With PetaSAN, complicated administration and time-consuming re-installation of many components for better integration with the Ceph environment are a thing of the past. The open source solution already includes all important components: The Ceph modules required for the complete installation – from the OS to the complete Ceph installation and configuration. This also includes the activation of true MPIO iSCSI and true automatic failover for iSCSI paths.
In the standard configuration of a PetaSAN installation, engineers used the integrated NVMe drives for the Journal to improve performance – a variant that delivers agile performance while saving costs. They can also configure the solution to run fully on NVMe, depending on the customer’s application and requirements. The cluster, which is constantly growing in size and performance, is thus given a boost by hardware.
By the way: At the company, PetaSAN runs on reliable Zealbox servers assembled from solid supermicro parts.

In this way the best of all worlds can be used: all the benefits of a scalable Ceph cluster combined with native and redundant MPIO iSCSI capabilities for Windows Server and VMware.
Administrators will appreciate the easy to administer web interface for their daily work. (visible for example in the Quickstart Guide of PetaSAN)
