Aruba Business in Italy Chooses Nakivo
Achieving lower TCO and saving time on VM backup administration
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on June 19, 2019 at 2:20 pmNakivo Inc. has announced that Aruba Business s.r.l. has selected its Backup & Replication to protect their virtual environment.
Aruba Business, a company of Aruba S.p.A., was founded in 2015 with the aim of creating a channel dedicated to the market of IT operators and business partners. The team, which is up made of professionals with experience, offers IT services such as web hosting, domains, cloud, e-security and a data center. Furthermore, they are able to create strategic projects and managed services according to their customer’s needs. The company’s solutions are aimed at resellers interested in offering their customers a complete portfolio of services.
The virtual infrastructure of Aruba Business is based on VMware, where 80% of the VMs are Linux Centos 7 based, and 20% of the VMs are based on Windows 2016. The virtual infrastructure was implemented for the shared hosting service of the Aruba Business, therefore the VMs store the contents of websites with the relative databases based on CMS, such as WordPress, Joomla, Woocommerce, Drupal, Magento, and Prestashop.
Since the company caters to the needs of the resellers, VM backup is a necessary functionality for the company to have in order to recover data when their customers require them to do so.
In the past, Aruba Business have protected their infrastructure through a range of different backup solutions. The most common disadvantages of such solutions were failed backup jobs, long amounts of time spent on backup administration, as well as a high RPO.
“Overall, we experienced failed backup jobs and long backup times. In case of a VM failure, a recovered VM had to be started on the destination with the same hardware resources. VM backup and replication jobs could only be configured for a single VM, and not at a cluster level. While for VM replication, our RPO often exceeded four hours at times. There was always some kind of a problem,” says Matteo Soavi, CTO, Aruba Business.
Aruba Business chose Nakivo as their new VM backup solution for protecting their VMware environment. Having installed it as a pre-configured virtual appliance, the company found that the product to be simple and intuitive, as well as easy to manage because most operations can be done in the web interface, and no configuration is required in the CLI. Overall, the whole process of installing and configuring the product was a breeze for the company.
“We wanted to find a VM backup solution that would offer us performance with a good benefit-to-cost ratio, and Nakivo Backup & Replication did not disappoint us. Moreover, we can now have more recovery points at no extra cost,” said Soavi.
In addition, Backup & Replication’s dashboard provides insight into the backup operations and saves time for the IT team on managing these daily backup operations. With Nakivo, Aruba is achieving a better TCO with their infrastructure.
With VM backup and VM replication, Aruba protects their customer’s critical data. VM backup and data deduplication in SAN mode provide high backup speed for the company in comparison to their previous backup products.
“The speed of our backups definitely improved when we switched to Nakivo Backup & Replication. Global data deduplication helped us save significant storage space, and we can now keep more recovery points,” he added.
VM replication offers Aruba a fast and reliable way to replicate their VMware VMs to a remote location. Previously, the company’s RPO often exceeded four hours with other backup products, while with Nakivo solution their RPO has reduced.
“Nakivo Backup & Replication provides us with a possibility to fail over from our primary site to the secondary site, in a case of disaster. We can also save up to 30 recovery points for a VM replica. Since we can set up our VM replication jobs as often as we want, our RPO has been reduced by quite a lot,” he said.
Finally, Nakivo provides the company with instant VM recovery and granular recovery functionality.
He then commented: “With just a couple of clicks, we can recover a whole VM without the need to reconfigure anything. With instant file recovery, we can recover and download a single file or even a directory. Overall, the recovery process is as simple as it can be for us.“
Nakivo provides Aruba with a better VM backup speed, a reduced RPO time, storage space savings, as well as time savings in terms of VM backup configuration. It improved VM backup speed for the company, while data deduplication allowed them to save more recovery points with the same amount of storage space. Additionally, VM replication reduced the RPO time. Moreover, the company can recover entire VMware VMs, files, and even directories.
Lastly, Nakivo solved the problem of VM backup configuration for all the VMs in a simple way.
“With the previous products, we had to manually add every new VMware VM to the backup job and that was time-consuming for us. Nakivo Backup & Replication saved a significant amount of time for us, by allowing us to backup entire clusters of VMs. Overall, all the previously mentioned functionality of the product helped us achieve the lowest possible TCO,” said Soavi.
