History (1988): IBM Cuts Prices of 3480 Tape Drives Models

By 12 to 17%

IBM Corp. (USA) cut prices on 3480 models A 11, A 22, B11 and B22, by 12 to 17%.

3480 Models A 11, A 22, B11 And B22

The A 22 will sell for $56,930 compared with $68,590. The B22 with two drives will cost $39,840, the A 11 $42,770 and the B 11 $35,860.

The transfer rate in this unit will be increased from 3MB/s to 4.5MB/s for $4,000 and its buffer storage from 1MB to2 MB.

The capacity of the 3480 cartridges is expected to be four to five times larger next year.
