IBM Storwize V5100 With NVMe-Based Storage

Maximum of 1,520 drives

IBM Storwize V5100 delivers improved performance with NVMe-based storage

IBM Storwize V5100 models 424, AF4, and U5B are the latest Storwize control enclosures designed to combine Spectrum Virtualize, FlashCore, and Storage Insights technologies to deliver a NVMe accelerated, hybrid storage system.

Ibm Storwize V5100 Nvme

V5100 is a virtualized, software-defined storage system designed to consolidate workloads into a single storage system for ease of management, reduced costs, scalable capacity, performance and availability. V5100 models 424, AF4, and U5B deliver improved latency and performance with the implementation of NVMe technology.

V5100 SFF Control Enclosure models 424, AF4, and U5B feature:

  • Two node canisters, each with an 8-core processor and integrated hardware-assisted compression acceleration
  • 64GB cache (32GB per canister) standard with options from 192GB to 576GB (per system)
  • Eight 10GbE ports standard for iSCSI connectivity
  • 16 or 32Gb FC connectivity options with FC-NVMe support
  • 25GbE connectivity options with iSCSI and iSER (RoCe V2 and iWARP) support
  • Support for up to twenty-four 2.5-inch NVMe flash drives
  • 2U, 19-inch rack mount enclosure

Attachment and intermixing of existing V5000 expansion enclosure models 12F, 24F, AFF, A9F, and 92F is supported with V5100 models 424 and AF4.

SV5100 systems scale up to 760 drives with the attachment of V5000 expansions.

V5100 systems can be clustered to help deliver performance, bandwidth, and scalability. A V5100 clustered system can contain up to two Storwize V5100 systems and up to 1,520 drives.

All V5100 functional capabilities are provided through Spectrum Virtualize Software. For additional information about V5100 functional capabilities and software, see the materials listed in the Reference information section.

Key requirements
V5100 models 424, AF4, and U5B require Spectrum Virtualize Software V8.2.1, or later, for operation. Use of the software is entitled through the acquisition of IBM Spectrum Virtualize software licenses. For a comprehensive list of supported environments, devices, and configurations, go to the IBM System Storage Interoperation Center (SSIC) website.

Planned availability dates:

  • June 7, 2019: All models and features, except as noted below
