Cloudian Teams With Cisco to Deliver Limitlessly Scalable Storage and Seamless Data Management for Hybrid Cloud Environments

Cloudian HyperStore object storage available as Cisco validated design

Cloudian, Inc. announced availability of a Cisco Validated Design (CVD) for its HyperStore on the Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) platform.

The CVD reflects the companies’ expanded collaboration in providing infrastructure solutions for modernizing enterprise data centers, including accelerating the transition to hybrid cloud. Cisco customers will now be able to capitalize fully on Cloudian’s software-defined, limitlessly scalable and cost-effective storage that bridges public and private cloud environments.

As a CVD, the pertners’ solution has been designed, tested, and documented to facilitate faster, more reliable deployments of a storage cluster. As a result, customers in highly data-intensive industries such as media and entertainment, video surveillance, healthcare and scientific research can more quickly and easily lay the foundation for maximizing the value of their digital assets.

The HyperStore architecture is designed for cloud infrastructures, with S3 compatibility, enabling seamless data management across public and private cloud environments. This integration also gives organizations the flexibility to utilize different public cloud providers, thereby avoiding vendor lock-in.

In addition to hybrid and multi-cloud data management,
other HyperStore benefits include:

  • Modular and limitless scalability: Unlike many other object storage providers that require users to over-provision, Cloudian enables customers to start small and then grow without limit. As more capacity is needed, they can non-disruptively add an additional node or even new locations to the cluster and that capacity becomes part of the available storage pool.
  • Geo-distribution: Global data fabric means storage can be deployed anywhere but still be managed centrally from a single pane of glass.
  • Multi-tenancy: HyperStore provides isolated storage environments within a shared system to ensure data privacy. In addition, it incorporates billing and QoS features to help meet performance SLAs.
  • Up to 70% cost savings: By reducing CAPEX and eliminating expensive and time-consuming data migrations, the company can cut data protection costs by up to 70% compared to purpose-built disk-based offerings and tape-based systems.

“Simplified operations, policy-based data management and on-demand scalability are key requirements for storage deployments in today’s modern data center,” said Siva Sivakumar, senior director, data center solutions, Cisco. “We look forward to working with Cloudian to help customers meet their data-intensive storage needs by leveraging Cisco UCS’ high-capacity storage servers with HyperStore’s cloud-ready, highly scalable and cost-effective technology.”

“The combination of Cloudian’s industry-leading object storage software and Cisco’s storage-optimized compute platform provides an ideal foundation for a private or hybrid cloud infrastructure,” said Jon Toor, CMO, Cloudian. “We’re excited about expanding our relationship with Cisco and providing joint data management solutions that enable customers to achieve their business or mission objectives.”

This is a key accomplishment for Cloudian illustrating its market penetration and users' demand. It confirms also Cisco's strategy to associate its UCS platform with a successful and asked product to continue the hardware push.

We see Cloudian for a few months almost at every show - Strata a few weeks ago, NAS Show this week and soon at Nutanix .NEXT, Bio-IT, VeeamON, Cisco Live and HPE Discover - confirming a strategy to be associated with multiple use cases and be considered as THE object storage vendor for on-premise deployment.

Among a large list of object storage vendors, Caringo, IBM with COS (Cleversafe heritage), Cloudian and MinIO, seem to be the most active on the market.
