Pure Storage ObjectEngine Data Protection Platform for Flash and Cloud

Pure Storage, Inc. announced ObjectEngine, a data protection platform purpose-built for flash and cloud, to enable faster recovery.

Designed to enable data centricity for the enterprise and built on cloud-native technologies from recently acquired StorReduce, ObjectEngine further unifies cloud and on-premises with rapid backup and recovery across both.

The launch of the platform comes just months after the acquisition of StorReduce, the flash-native deduplication technology designed to enable user-friendly, cost-effective recovery and backup to the public cloud.

According to industry research, 57% of enterprises are likely to change their existing data protection solution within the next two years. Legacy approaches to data protection were built for a world in which data is a liability, not a strategic, value-added asset. Today’s solutions can take hours or days to recover business-critical data in an environment where real-time has become consumer expectation. With ObjectEngine, enterprises can implement a modern approach to data protection, built for contemporary challenges, to restore on-demand and enable use of data in the cloud.

The majority of today’s solutions are built for a ‘disk-to-disk-to-tape’ approach, meaning that hot and warm data are stored on disk while historical or backup data goes to tape, where it is largely inaccessible. Legacy backup appliances optimized to backup data are 10x slower when data needs to be restored. Today, historical data is business’ most critical currency – it needs to be readily accessible at a moment’s notice.

With ObjectEngine, customers can modernize their entire data protection strategy to a ‘flash-to-flash-to-cloud‘ approach and meet stringent backup and restore SLAs without any change to their existing backup workflow. For customers that have built data protection processes with backup software vendors like Veritas, Veeam and Commvault, ObjectEngine works under the same cover.

Solution will be available in two configurations:

  • • Object Fabric. Secure, enterprise-ready platform built with a cloud object storage virtualization layer offering eleven nines of durability in the cloud.

    • Cloud-native. Native S3 interface that enables openness, integration and data portability.

    • Single namespace. Offers internally replicated global namespace, a single pane of glass for data across hybrid cloud.

    • Scalable. Near-linear scaling to deliver 100+PB and 100+TB-per-hour performance in the cloud.
