- Local caching for low-latency access to frequently used data
Availability, resiliency, and load balancing through a single active VM-based solution (support for VMware only):
- Application load balancing provided by an external gateway
- Resiliency provided by a cold standby IBM Cloud Object Storage File Access VM in a second site (both IBM Cloud Object Storage FA VMs can be attached to the same IBM Cloud Object Storage vault or container)
Data management and security:
- Support for Active Directory, LDAP, and Kerberos
- Support for access control list, quotas, and antivirus

IBM Cloud Object Storage File Access delivers file services for Cloud Object Storage. It adds SMB and NFS protocols, and a file system interface on top of the object store for storing an infinite amount of unstructured data.

Together with Cloud Object Storage, Cloud Object Storage File Access creates a complete file storage solution suitable for multiple clients to have access to one or more unified file systems through the SMB and NFS protocols.
