SouthSuite Releasing Coraid VSX 8.1.0 Software

Diskless appliance with 3 years of software starts at $4,687.

SouthSuite, Inc., maker of the Coraid line of storage products, announced its VSX 8.1.0.

The VSX is a diskless appliance that utilizes companion Coraid SRX storage appliances to create an elastic storage system.

Benefits include:

  • No Single Point of Failure: Two VSXs using the newly redesigned HA protocol can be configured with SRXs for no single point of failure. The two VSXs stay in direct communication so that if the first one runs into a hiccup, the second can step in and take over serving data.
  • Flexible Logical Volumes: By pooling LUNs from multiple SRXs, VSXs can create up to 4,000 logical volumes of any size. Logical volumes look local to Linux, VMware, and Windows hosts.
  • Thin Provisioning: The VSX will only allocate storage from the pool when it’s needed so storage resources are maximized.
  • Snapshots: Take a snapshot of data at a given time, and go back at any time to work from it, or clone it to make a new, usable copy.
  • Remote DR: Logical volumes can hold snapshots that only contain changes made to the data since the last snapshot. When these exist in a remote DR configuration, the snapshots are sent to the remote VSX at your DR site for even more peace of mind.
  • Scale Out: Deploy as many VSXs to your network as you need. Just like the SRX, the VSX is a scale-out appliance that won’t bog your system down with each additional unit.

It’s hard to explain the feeling I have about this latest release,” said ATA-over-Ethernet inventor Brantley Coile. “The VSX was killed by my previous company, Coraid, Inc., yet people kept using it because of its simplicity and performance.”

More is coming,” he added.

A VSX with three years of software starts at $4,687.
