The Nottingham Building Society Deploys Nexsan E-Series Array

After pursuing options from Dell, HP to replace IBM

Nexsan, Inc., in unified storage solutions and part of the StorCentric group, announced that The Nottingham Building Society has selected its E-Series storage platform to modernise its IT infrastructure.

The Nottingham Building Society Deploys Nexsan

Nexsan’s high density storage solution has delivered the increased capacity, performance and stability needed to enable the company to accommodate its current and future storage needs.

The Nottingham Building Society (The Nottingham) is a building society and estate agency, which operates online and via a network of 67 branches across 11 counties. The organisation is the eighth largest building society in the UK by assets, and it is the fifth largest in terms of branch presence. The company offers a range of building society services such as mortgages and savings, as well as independent financial planning, whole-of-market mortgage advice and local estate agency services.

Pivotal to supporting the company’s continued expansion is the role of IT. As a building society, it was essential that the organisation had a secure storage infrastructure in place that could meet its demands. When it’s original IBM storage environment started to reach capacity limit, and performance became hindered, the company decided to look for an IT upgrade. Working with its partner Softcat Ltd, The Nottingham pursued options from Dell, HP and Nexsan. After an evaluation, the company deployed E-Series, designed to provide high-density and scalable storage.

Since deployment, The Nottingham has consolidated its storage needs to reduce power consumption and has improved reliability. In addition, the solution provided an easy deployment as well as a migration while maintaining a cost- effective approach. Currently the company is benefiting from 20 times more capacity than was previously available, and operating in half the rack space. This helps to save on storage, power and cooling costs, fundamentally reducing the storage footprint.

Phillip Crocker, distributed technology platform manager, The Nottingham, commented: “I was confident Nexsan would be a good fit for us and we also benchmarked with other providers so we could run a cost comparison, which affirmed our decision. We’ve been happy with the service, Nexsan has delivered what they promised, and it was a good ROI.

Gary Watson, CTO, StorCentric and founder of Nexsan, added: “Being able to support capacity demands and performance was essential for The Nottingham. The company was looking to continue its growth, making scalability an essential feature. The E-Series solution is a perfect fit, designed to enable organisations to achieve this in a cost effective platform that helps to boost storage efficiency.
